We’ve had the joy of working with a number of not-for-profit organizations in 2011, including Unionville Home Society (or UHS), who conveniently happen to be down the block from our office. UHS dedicates their time to providing services to seniors while promoting wellness, independence, and quality of life in a caring community. Its first home, Union Villa, was established in 1966, and the organization has since grown to become a leading seniors facility in Ontario.
Our initial introduction to UHS was through Silverpoint Media last spring, when we were approached to be a sponsor for Unionville Home Society’s yearly gala. We worked with Silverpoint to provide UHS with programmes, thank you cards, and other print materials.
In the fall, we began talking to UHS about their website – it desperately needed an “extreme makeover”. The site was dated, and the staff weren’t able to make updates on their own. In addition to the website overhaul, we were also commissioned to design and produce a direct mail campaign and newsletter that was to coincide with the site. The schedule was very tight; both the website and direct mail campaign had to be delivered within a 4-week timeframe. Timing was crucial for this project as it was important that the direct mail recipients received the full inbound and outbound brand experience.
Let’s take a quick peek at what their site looked like before, with the old colours, styling and logo:

The old UHS website
Since the website is where most potential residents and their families first find out about UHS, the visual impact was very important. The new site gives them a professional first impression, and is in line with the branding and values of UHS. But in addition to creating an attractive site, they needed a user-friendly and dynamic experience, web searchability, and a content management system that was simple to use for UHS staff.

UHS is extremely happy with their new web presence. They are now finally proud to direct visitors to the site, and it’s even a joy for them to update. Mission accomplished!
After working on such an intense 4-week project, we truly feel like we’ve known the folks at UHS for years. They are warm, caring and just amazing in general. What a blessing to call this our job.
